At Wharton Pharmacy, we offer free blood pressure monitoring services to help customers take a proactive role in managing and maintaining their health.
Blood pressure, the force of blood against artery walls, is a crucial indicator of cardiovascular health. High blood pressure, or hypertension, strains the heart and can lead to heart disease and stroke. Regular monitoring is essential because it helps detect and manage hypertension— a significant risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and other serious health issues.
One thing to remember is that with high blood pressure, you may not feel any symptoms. For that very reason, it can go undetected until a cardiovascular event occurs.
A blood pressure reading contains two numbers. The systolic pressure is reflected by the number on top and the diastolic pressure by the one on the bottom. As measured in millimeters of mercury, these numbers indicate the force of blood against artery walls when the heart beats (systolic) and when it rests between beats (diastolic). Normal blood pressure readings typically fall around 120/80 mm Hg.
With high blood pressure readings, it’s essential to contact your healthcare provider.
